A convoy of trucks carrying relief assistance for the quake-hit population of Afghanistan will leave for Khost tonight under the directives issued by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The premier earlier directed the dispatch after a 6.1 magnitude deadly earthquake rattled eastern parts of Afghanistan, leaving a trail of destruction and human casualties. The relief consignment includes tents, covers, blankets and medicines which would be handed over to the Afghan authorities. The convoy of eight trucks is being loaded with relief goods arranged by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), including 200 tents, 200 tarpaulins and 500 blankets, besides three trucks carrying life-saving drugs, and would use the Ghulam Khan Kalay Zang route. Also read: Pakistan Army dispatches aid, choppers to quake-hit Afghanistan The relevant authorities at the ministry of foreign affairs, the NDMA and other officials are in close contact with the Afghan authorities for the transportation and supply of the goods. Earlier today, the Pakistan Army said that it had set up a free medical camp for the affectees in Dubai, Paktika, while a free-of-charge ration was also arranged for the families in need. The military also established a temporary gate for the burial of those belonging to Madakhel tribe, at the Alwara Mandi. It also provided two helicopters to transport the critically injured to the hospitals, while a special entry system was set up for the affectees at the Ghulan Kham border.
