The federal police on Sunday arrested a man for torturing and hanging to death a cat on the stairs of his house. A woman had shared a video of the grisly incident on social media while pleading Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat to take notice of the matter. On the direction of the deputy commissioner, the Lohi Bher police arrested the retired government officer, identified as Raja Abdul Qayyum, and a case was registered against him. On social media, citizens expressed their anger over the incident after a video of the incident went viral on social media. People had demanded of the police to take stern action against the man for tormenting and torturing the animal. Lohi Bher police said that Anila Umair has also lodged a written complaint with the police and a case has been registered against the accused under Section 429 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Lohi Bher Police Station House Officer Ghulam Rasool told The Express Tribune the accused denied killing the cat by hanging and said that he did not know who strangled the cat to death on the stairs of his house.
