Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has backed the creation of smaller provinces and new administrative units, stressing it was imperative to restructure governance in order to bring political and financial powers, resources and public services closer to citizens.
In a video message released on Saturday, the minister noted that the purpose of creating smaller provinces and administrative units should be to ensure more effective governance. He argued that while the 18th Amendment had transferred powers from the federal government to the provinces, a similar devolution had not taken place from provinces to districts.
