Senate to take up crucial legislation

The Senate will meet on Thursday (today) evening for a crucial sitting expected to fast-track several amendment bills passed by the National Assembly, while lawmakers will also raise a range of issues of public importance during the session. According to a 27-point agenda issued by the Senate Secretariat, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Interior Minister Senator Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar will move several bills for approval. The minister in charge of the Cabinet Division is expected to move a motion, requesting suspension of the notice period required under Rule 120 to allow National Assembly-approved bills to be taken up immediately. Several calling-attention notices will also feature prominently. Zeeshan Khanzada's notice over interest and Bushra Anjum Butt notice pertaining to the rising prevalence of heart disease linked to the consumption of industrially produced trans fats.
