Four terrorists were killed and a police constable was martyred in a joint operation conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department and local police in Bannu’s Cantonment area, officials said on Thursday. According to Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Kulachi, police and CTD teams launched the operation after receiving intelligence reports. The suspects were already positioned and opened fire, triggering a heavy exchange. Four terrorists were killed in the encounter, he said. He said police personnel fought with “remarkable courage” against the terrorists. The martyred constable’s funeral was later held at the Bannu Police Lines, where police officials, Pakistan Army officers, family members and colleagues were in attendance. The martyred officer was laid to rest with full official honours. Fourteen abducted laborers rescued in DI Khan Separately, Police in Dera Ismail Khan freed 14 abducted labourers during an operation in the Sedu Wali area of Paharpur, officials said. A spokesperson for Dera police said law enforcement teams cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation under the supervision of DPO Dera Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada. A brief exchange of gunfire took place, after which police successfully recovered 14 abducted labourers unharmed. DPO Sahibzada commended the efforts of SP Paharpur, SP CTD, DSPs and other officers involved in the rescue operation, stating that police remain alert to protect citizens and will not allow any group or individual to take the law into their own hands.
