While condemning the killing of tourists in Pahalgam area of the held Kashmir, some of the leading journalists, intellectuals and peace activists from the subcontinent have called for de-escalation of a dangerous war-like situation. They have also demanded "fair and credible" investigation into the incident "to fix the responsibility". A joint statement, endorsed by dozens of writers and intellectuals from both sides of the border, unequivocally condemned "terrorism against the innocent tourists in the Pahalgam valley, and at any place on whatever pretext".
