National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has chided the opposition partiesmainly the PTIfor their alleged double standards, saying they are availing perks and privileges from the same Parliament which they call "fake". "I ask if it is justified to simultaneously withdraw salaries and hold key offices in the lower and upper houses of the Parliament while calling it bogus," Sadiq said on Friday during his media interaction at the launching ceremony of the tree plantation drive the Mughal Garden in the Parliament House. The speaker said the opposition lawmakers come into the assembly to protest and neglect the issues of public importance. Sadiq also revealed that the opposition has not yet proposed any names for the new chief election commissioner (CEC). "Despite the official correspondence from the National Assembly Secretariat on February 19, 2025, the opposition has so far not nominated names for the CEC," he said. While discussing the current happenings in the assembly, the speaker accused the opposition leaderOmar Ayubof misleading people, saying he speaks at length on the floor of the house and then tells the media that he was not given a chance to speak. Speaker Sadiq revealed that the opposition leader delivered a speech lasting one hour and 21 minutes during the current session but after the speech, he went outside and told the media he was not given a chance to speak. "Isn't this a contradiction," he questioned.
