President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday called on the government to increase salaries and pensions in the upcoming budget, reduce income taxes for salaried classes, and focus on creating jobs instead of downsizing. In his annual address to the joint session of Parliament marking the beginning of the new parliamentary year, Zardari highlighted the severe economic hardships faced by the common man, labourers, and salaried individuals. He pointed to inflation, high prices of essential goods, and rising energy costs as the key burdens affecting the people. The president stressed that the upcoming budget should provide real relief to the citizens. He urged the government and Parliament to take steps to increase salaries and pensions, reduce income taxes on salaried classes, and lower energy costs, which would ease the financial strain on the population. “We should avoid downsizing and job cuts. Instead, our focus should be on creating jobs and utilizing trained manpower productively,” Zardari added. As the first civilian president to address Parliament for the eighth time, Zardari also emphasized the need for inclusive and uniform development, ensuring that no province, district, or village is left behind. “The ignored and neglected areas demand urgent attention from the federal government. They also need investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities to address their sense of deprivation,” the president concluded.
