Religious Affairs Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain met Turkish Ambassador Irfan Nazir Oglu on Wednesday to explore avenues for providing modern technical education and increasing job opportunities for skilled Pakistani workers in Turkiye, according to a statement from the ministry. During the meeting, the two sides discussed proposals related to religious harmony, respect for humanity, and cooperation in promoting skilled manpower. The Turkish ambassador reaffirmed Turkiye’s commitment to expanding employment opportunities for Pakistani workers and enhancing technical training in Pakistan. “Both nations share similar stances on regional and global issues and have consistently supported each other on international platforms,” Hussain said. The ambassador expressed condolences over the deaths of Pakistanis in the recent Morocco boat tragedy and highlighted Turkiye’s efforts to supply machinery to Pakistani industries and boost joint investment. Last year, 600,000 Pakistanis went abroad for employment, with overseas remittances reaching a record $3.1 billion by December, 2024. Both sides agreed that improving banking channels between Pakistan and Turkiye is critical for boosting trade, which the two countries aim to expand to $5 billion. The meeting concluded with commitments to strengthen efforts against extremism, promote interfaith harmony, and enhance bilateral cooperation in education and technical training.
