The government reaffirmed its commitment to addressing climate change and advancing clean energy solutions during the observance of the International Day of Clean Energy on Sunday. Energy Minister Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari highlighted the nation’s ambitious goal to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 50 per cent by 2030. In his remarks, Leghari emphasised the pivotal role that clean energy plays in meeting this target. “Pakistan is fully committed to promoting renewable energy, and the Power Division is carefully formulating policies to provide affordable and sustainable electricity to consumers,” said the minister. He acknowledged the challenges faced in the shift to cleaner energy sources and called for technical and financial support from nations with advanced clean energy technologies. Leghari outlined one of the government’s key energy transition goals: converting 30 per cent of fossil fuel vehicles into electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030. This conversion is essential to meeting Pakistan’s clean energy objectives. The government has already made moves to support the EV sector, including a recent 44 per cent reduction in electricity tariffs for EV charging stations aimed at attracting investments and promoting EV adoption.
