The Senate Standing Committee on Finance is going to meet on December 24 to deliberate on the Tax Laws Amendment Bill, 2024, a piece of proposed legislation that seeks to introduce harsh measures to broaden the tax net. The proposed bill includes provisions such as classifying non-filers as "ineligible persons" and implementing a plan to collect taxes from filers based on actual income and expenses. Under the proposed bill, non-filers will be prohibited from purchasing vehicles and property. They will also be barred from opening bank accounts.
