President Asif Zardari has approved 90-day remission in the prisoners' sentences ahead of Independence Day under Article 45 of the Constitution. As per statement issued by the President House, the remission in sentences will not be applicable on prisoners convicted on charges of murder, espionage and anti-state activities, fornication, theft, robbery, kidnapping and terrorism. Besides, the prisoners languishing in jails on charges of financial crimes and causing loss to national kitty also cannot avail the remission. Meanwhile, those prisoners who were convicted under Foreigners Act 1946 and Drug Control (Amendment) Act 2022, could also not avail the relief in their terms.
