K-P sets minimum wage at Rs32,000

In response to the high inflation rate affecting the middle class, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) caretaker cabinet has approved an increase in the minimum wage for labourers from Rs25,000 to Rs32,000 in the province. The decision was made during the 10th meeting of the cabinet, which was chaired by Caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan and held at the Civil Secretariat in Peshawar on Wednesday. Various important issues were discussed during the meeting, including labour, health, and relief, with dedicated points on the agenda for each of these areas. The Department of Auqaf, local government, agriculture, and population welfare were also part of the agenda. The decision to raise the minimum wage for labourers came as a recommendation from the labour department, as advised by the K-P minimum wages board and endorsed by the cabinet. Moreover, the cabinet also addressed the need for additional grant-in-aid for schools under the Workers’ Children Education Board. Considering the financial strain faced by these schools, which employ 93 teaching and administrative staff, the cabinet approved supplementary financial support to cover expenses such as salaries, book purchases, uniforms, and stipends for the year 2022-23.
