A man who had been kidnapped for ransom from the Sharqpur area four days ago was rescued by the area police after an encounter on Saturday. Two of the suspected kidnapper were killed in the exchange of fire. According to police officials, the operation to rescue the victim led to an encounter, during which two main suspects in the kidnapping were killed by the firing of their own accomplices. The officials said a resident of a locality of Lahore, Shamsul Qamar Bajwa, had been had been abducted and the abductors had demanded Rs40 million in ransom for his release. The abducted man’s son Muhammad Salim Bajwa had request police intervention after receiving the demand for ransom and a first information report (FIR) had been registered on his complaint. The Sharqpur police launched an investigation, leading to the encounter and the safe recovery of the man abducted for ransom. The suspected kidnappers’ bodies were transferred to District Headquarters Hospital in Sheikhupura for examination and legal formalities. Published in The Express Tribune, August 6th, 2023.
