Police have arrested a student of the Bahawalnagar campus of a university on the charge of drug peddling. The police claimed that the student, Shabbir Shah, had been arrested in Islamnagar and 1.4kgs of hashish and 210 grams of Ice seized from him. Police officials said the suspect was a student of the local campus of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. They said they suspected that a gang might be involved in drug peddling in other educational institutions as well. Sources among the campus employees said there had been suspicions of drug abuse among students. When contacted, the university's Media Coordinator Shahzad Khalid said strict action would be taken against anyone found involved in the case. Commenting on the matter, a local social activist, Muhammad Ali, suggested medical tests of students suspected of being drug addicts. Published in The Express Tribune, June 1st, 2023.
