Inflation slightly increased by 0.15 percent on a weekly basis while it reached a record-high of 46.82 percent on an annual basis. In the recent week, 21 essential commodities became expensive and seven became cheaper in the country, while the prices of 23 remained stable. According to the weekly inflation report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), during the recent week ending on April 27, 2023, the segment of the society earning more than Rs44,175 per month was the most affected by inflation as the inflation rate stood at 48.23 percent for them. The prices of 21 essential items, including potatoes, flour, eggs, daal mash, daal channa, beef, mutton, jaggery, chicken, washing soap, bread, rice, fresh milk and fresh yoghurt, increased during the past week. Seven items, including onion, rice, mustard oil and LPG, become cheaper. The prices of 23 essential commodities remained stable. The price of potatoes went up by 8.22 percent, flour by 2.65 percent, chicken by 1.75 percent, rice by 1.01 percent, plain bread by 1.13 percent and jaggery by 1.23 percent. Tomatoes became cheaper by 19.20 percent, onion by 1.40 percent, sugar by 1.19 percent, LPG by 1.09 percent, lentils by 0.98 percent and mustard oil by 0.39 percent. During the week ending April 13, the rate of inflation in the country has been 46.821 percent compared to the same period last year in terms of the Sensitive Price Index (SPI). 41.54 percent is the annual inflation rate for those earning up to Rs17,732 per month, 46.39 percent for those earning between Rs17,732 and Rs22,888, 46.36 percent for those earning between Rs22,889 rupees and Rs29,517, 46.55 percent for those earning between Rs29,517 and Rs44,175 and 48.23 percent for those whose income exceeds Rs44,176 rupees per month.
