Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Friday backtracked from his earlier decision of contesting by-elections on 33 vacant National Assembly (NA) seats in a bid to avert disqualification in the Tyrian White case. The PTI chairman had argued in the case before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that he was not supposed to disclose such information as he did not hold any public office. Imran, before withdrawal, was contesting on 33 NA vacant seats, after Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf accepted the resignations. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), after de-notifying the members, had issued the by-polls’ schedule. The by-elections, as per the commission’s notification, will be held on March 19, 2023.
