As the Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology wrapped up its five-day international conference on Sunday, nursing staff and paramedics from Lahore General Hospital were given practical training in endoscopy. Prof Ghiyasun Nabi Taiyab and Israrul Haq Toor emphasised the importance of well-trained and well-equipped nursing staff and paramedics in successful medical practice. Foreign doctors, gastroenterologists and experts in attendance praised the Gastroenterology Department of Lahore General Hospital for providing patients international standard facilities for endoscopy, colonoscopy and other medical services. The conference saw 127 research papers presented, with 80 lectures delivered by participants. Over 3,000 doctors attended the conference and were given hands-on training and live procedure demonstrations. Prof Toor, the chief organiser of the conference, stressed the need for timely diagnosis and treatment of various diseases and urged the participants to spread awareness in their communities. He also emphasised the responsibility of patients and their attendants to seek medical attention promptly. Foreign participants were treated to visits to historical sites in the city.
