Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) wrote a letter to interior ministry for provision of security after the historic decision was announced on Friday. The ECP requested the ministry to secure federal, provincial and district offices and officials from any unfortunate event as a political party’s leader was also apprehended as one of his guards shot fire outside the commission’s building. The commission also wanted the ministry to direct chief secretaries and police to increase security in the aftermath of the evolving situation. Interior ministry had issued directives to the concerned authorities and to the provinces for securing the commission from any possible harm. The verdict is hailed by the major ruling parties as a good sign for the strength of constitutional body. Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) has long been vocal against current Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sultan Raja, who was posted to this position by former PM and PTI chief Imran Khan. The incumbent CEC had earlier given bold decisions in which he accused Punjab provincial government of interfering in elections as some presiding officers, reportedly, went missing after the Daska elections.
