The Punjab Assembly on Thursday passed a no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari with a majority vote two days after the election of PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz as the chief minister was annulled by the Supreme Court. The Punjab Assembly session, chaired by Nawabzada Waseem Khan Baduzai, accepted PTI MPA Raja Basharat request to present the resolution to remove the deputy speaker and elect a new speaker, reported Express News. The motion said that the post of speaker fell vacant due to the election of Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as the chief minister, “therefore this House wants to suspend Rule 11 (1) and 12 (3) of the Rules of Procedure and elect the Speaker”. ڈپٹی سپیکر کے خلاف تحریک عدم اعتماد پنجاب اسمبلی میں پیش، کل ووٹنگ ہوگی۔#ایک_نیازی_سب_پہ_بھاری pic.twitter.com/EJcUTwKrey — Muhammad Basharat Raja (@RajaBasharatLAW) July 28, 2022 The PTI nominated former provincial minister Sibtain Khan for the Punjab Assembly speaker’s post.
