Jhelum Police organised a special session on harassment of women at Government Associate College for Women in which the students were provided detailed information about the ways to seek police help if they face harassment. Jhelum police anti-harassment cell in charge Inspector Nazia addressed the seminar saying that Islam teaches protection of women's rights and good behaviour. Our social, family values and traditions are conducive to the formation of a civilised society where women enjoy equal rights, freedoms, importance and respect as men, she said, adding that the empowerment of women as enunciated in Islam assures the development of their best mental and physical abilities and talents so that they can avail all opportunities and facilities available for playing their role in all walks of life including education, health and employment. She said that Islam has given women a pure place and status in society, a concept that is almost extinct elsewhere. Our primary duty is to give women their rightful place in all walks of life, she added. She said that it was our duty to ensure respect and dignity of women and protection of their modesty and safety from sexual exploitation. Published in The Express Tribune, May 22nd, 2022.
