The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has nominated MNA Chaudhry Hussain Elahi, son of Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, as leader of opposition in National Assembly. The decision to nominate Hussain Elahi was taken by the party leadership after the resignations of PTI members from the lower house of the parliament. Speaking to the media at his residence in Lahore on Monday, Hussain said that the PML-Q has always fought for the rights of Pakistan and its people. “We cannot leave Pakistan at the mercy of this ‘imported government’ which also wants to occupy an important position like the leader of the opposition,” he said, adding that his party will not let the government to succeed under any circumstances. He said that his party stood firm with ousted prime minister Imran Khan and accused the PML-N-led coalition government of attempting to install a ‘rubber stamp opposition’ in the NA. “They [government] want to bring an opposition which remained in Sindh House... lawmakers who defected will take the ticket for next elections from the present government.” He said that the tradition of floor-crossing should be brought to an end and also demanded the judiciary to take action against PTI dissident lawmakers. The PML-Q leader said that they were in touch with the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) for the nomination of the leader of the opposition. He further said that the incumbent regime wanted to elect a “puppet” opposition from among the dissident members who joined it so that it can do its bidding for legislation or other issues in the National Assembly. Hussain Elahi said that the government’s occupation of the post of leader of the opposition is in fact contrary to democratic values. “This vested interest group also wants one man show for many important positions in the future in which we will not allow them to succeed under any circumstances, we will do our best to stop them from violating the rights of the people.” He further added that PML-Q is undoubtedly the party of the people’s aspirations. “We will, as always, be a wall against these imported elements that are still a threat to the sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan.”
