The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the schedule for the first phase of local government (LG) elections in Punjab stating that balloting in 17 districts of the province would be held on June 9. According to a notification issued by the ECP, the districts where LG polls will be held include Attock, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Khushab, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Khanewal, Vehari, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Pakpattan and Dera Ghazi Khan. The nomination papers can be filed with the returning officers concerned from April 21 to 25. The names of the candidates will be published on April 25. The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be carried out from April 27 to May 9, followed by filing of appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers from May 10 to12. Likewise, appeals will be disposed of by May 14 and till May 19 the intending candidates will have the option to withdraw their nomination papers. Election symbols will be allotted on May 20. Polling will be held on June 9 while the results will be consolidated on June 14. Polls in the second phase would be held in Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Jhang, Narowal, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Lodhran, Multan, Chakwal, Okara, Bhakkar, Mianwali and Sargodha.
