Resignation not an option, PM will ‘fight till last ball’: Fawad

Hours after ally the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) announced parting ways with the PTI-led government and the opposition claimed having the requisite number to oust the prime minister, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said Imran Khan "won't step down at any cost and will fight till the last ball”. “We are going to conduct an in-camera session to reveal the contents of the [threat] letter received by PM,” Fawad said as he spoke to media persons flanked by PM’s aide Shahbaz Gill. The “threat letter” Prime Minister Imran Khan had claimed in a March 27 public gathering was evidence of “foreign powers” behind the opposition’s no-confidence move to oust his government. “For Imran Khan, resignation is not an option and I can assure you that he wasn’t asked to do so during his meeting with the army chief [General Qamar],” he added. He added that the government had also offered to show the letter to the chief justice. “Let me make it clear that Imran Khan will fight against this for the integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan as well as for the integrity of the nation,” he added. “This is a situation similar the 1992 Cricket World Cup when we seemed at the back-foot when we weren’t,” he quipped. Fawad went on to add, “Everyone will see [how the situation will turn into Premier Khan’s favour once the game changed.” On the MQM-P parting ways with the government, he said “those sitting in Sindh can’t even realise what has happened to them.” While responding to a question, the info minister said the PTI government believed in taking the institutions onboard unlike Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) who always wanted to conquer them. Speaking on the occasion, Gill said the PM was at first sent a “soft signal”, followed by a harsh response, adding he would not bow to the powers that be. Later, Fawad took to Twitter, saying "Prime Mininter! Imran Khan in-sha-Allah." وزیر اعظم ! عمران خان انشاللہ — Ch Fawad Hussain (@fawadchaudhry) March 30, 2022 He also posted an image captioned, "Dwarves are trying to knock out a giant."
