Nadeem Afzal Chan, the former spokesperson of Prime Minister Imran Khan, is returning to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and will make an announcement in this regard on Sunday. According to sources, Chan will formally join his old political party during a meeting with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari at his residence. He served as the secretary general of PPP Punjab before joining the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on April 19, 2018 during a meeting with Chairman Imran Khan. However, on January 14 this year, he announced his resignation as the premier’s spokesperson on the microblogging website Twitter. Four days before his resignation, Chan had commented on the premier’s reaction to the demands of the heirs of slain miners of the Hazara community in the Mach area of Balochistan. “Helpless and innocent bodies of slain coal miners, I am ashamed,” he had tweeted. Following his remarks, he told a local news outlet that his tweet was the “voice of his conscience”. He also added that he had advised the premier to immediately meet the heirs of the slain miners in Quetta.
