Australian Chief of Defence Force (CDF) General Angus J Campbell called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday and discussed matters of mutual interest including the prevailing situation in Afghanistan. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), military-to-military cooperation, overall regional security situation including the current Afghan situation and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed during the meeting. “Pakistan values its relations with Australia,” the military’s media wing quoted Gen Qamar as saying. Both reiterated the desire to further enhance bilateral relations and defence cooperation including efforts for peace and security in the region, it added. Also read: COAS, Sri Lankan navy chief agree to enhance multi-domain ties The Australian general acknowledged the professionalism of Pakistan armed forces and appreciated Islamabad’s role in the Afghan situation, regional stability and special efforts for border management. He also assured to play his part for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation at all levels and pledged to enhance military cooperation between the two forces, the communiqué added. Earlier today, Commander of Sri Lankan Navy Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne also called on General Qamar at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, the military said. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security and the current Afghanistan situation were discussed, the ISPR said in a statement. Gen Qamar said that Pakistan wishes to enhance long term multi-domain relations with Sri Lanka based on common interests. He reiterated that all regional countries need to work collectively for enduring peace and stability.
