The Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) has started tour services for Kartarpur and South Punjab as part of efforts to highlight the glory of less popular tourist destinations of the province. The inauguration ceremony held on Sunday was attended by the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister, Hasaan Khawar, and senior officials of the corporation. Khawar expressed his best wishes for the first batch of tourists visiting Kartarpur and South Punjab. He also conveyed best wishes from Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and highlighted that with the special interest of Prime Minister Imran Khan and guidance of the CM, important steps were being taken to promote tourism in Punjab. “It will help in strengthening the economy and highlighting the importance of the country’s historical, religious and cultural sites.” He pointed out that many less known places were being brought to the forefront for tourism in Punjab. Lessons learnt from past experience were being utilised for promotion of tourism and restoring role of the TDCP. New tourist destinations like Kotli Satiyan, Fort Monroe and Soan Valley had been identified, while Cholistan, Changa Manga and many other existing spots were also being upgraded to attract local and foreign tourists, the special assistant said. He said the cultural value of different places was being enhanced to ignite the interest of local tourists. Tours were also going to be started to promote religious tourism to tap this ignored area of importance. “This initiative will promote tourism in Lahore, Kasur and other cities. Tourists will also be introduced to the Sufi traditions. Attention is also being paid to the promotion of ecotourism and agri-tourism,” he said and added that agritourism would provide an opportunity for the culture of agriculture to flourish
