'Ice-breaker': Pakistan, India issue diplomatic visas to each other

Pakistan and India on Sunday issued diplomatic visas to each other after a gap of several months, paving the way for the restoration of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Islamabad issued visas to six Indian envoys and other staffers while New Delhi issued visas to 20 Pakistani diplomats and officers. The countries granted visas on the applications received by the two until October this year. The development has paved way for the deployment of the diplomatic staff in both the countries. Also read: Pakistan, India issue diplomatic visas to each other In August this year, the two countries issued assignment visas to each other's diplomats in an attempt to normalise ties that deteriorated after a suicide bombing of a military convoy in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). India later sent warplanes to Pakistan. Later, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi withdrew IIOJK’s semi-autonomous status to tighten his grip over the territory, provoking outrage in Pakistan and the downgrading of diplomatic ties and suspension of bilateral trade. Pakistan and India have issued a large number of assignment visas to each other's diplomatic staff this year.
