Third phase of save buffalo calves project launched

The Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department (LDDD) has launched the third phase of ‘save the buffalo calves’ under the Prime Minister’s agricultural prosperity programme to increase meat production. Under this new phase, registration of male calves has been started in all the districts of Punjab. The age limit of calves for registration has been fixed for one month. The L&DDD spokesperson said that registration will continue for two months. A farmer can register up to 10 calves under this project. A separate tattoo number will be issued for each animal and Rs6,500 will be given to the farmer to raise the calf. While under the Farba project, each farmer can register a maximum of 25 claves. Farmers will be given financial help of Rs4,000 per animal. Specialists will inspect all registered calves regularly every month, weigh them and use their meat when they are young. This meat can be supplied domestically and abroad. According to the spokesperson, both of these projects have been very successful.
