Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, the military’s media wing said. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during the meeting, matters of mutual interest, overall regional security situation including the latest developments in Afghanistan and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed. The army chief said that “Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Germany” and expressed a desire for enhanced mutually beneficial bilateral relations. The German dignitary acknowledged Pakistan’s continuous efforts for peace and stability in the region and thanked Gen Qamar for assistance rendered by Pakistan during evacuations from Kabul, the ISPR added. Also read: Germany thanks Pakistan for supporting Afghanistan evacuations Earlier, German FM Heiko Maas also met Prime Minister Imran Khan and thanked Pakistan for helping to evacuate its citizens from Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of Kabul. During the meeting, views were exchanged on the situation in Afghanistan as well as Pakistan-Germany bilateral relations, the official statement said. The prime minister recalled his conversation with German Chancellor Merkel, in which the two leaders had “fruitful exchange of views” on the Afghanistan situation. PM Imran underscored that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is vitally important for Pakistan and the region. He also stressed that at this pivotal moment in Afghanistan’s history, it is important for the international community to remain in support and solidarity with the Afghan people.
