Three booked for ‘looting, beating’ expat

A man was allegedly looted and physically assaulted by his tenant and his two accomplices in the city on Tuesday. Reportedly, a case had been registered against three suspects for snatching CAD 8,500, a wristwatch and other valuables while physically assaulting the landlord, an overseas Pakistani, for asking frent. According to the police report, Ghulam Hussain, the son of Noor Hussain and a resident of Mohalla Khayaban Colony No 2, a Canadian national, had taken a stand in the case registered with the police that he had rented his flat located on Ali Road to Pervez Khan. Pervez did not pay the rent on time. He owed Rs190,000 to Ghulam. Meanwhile, Ghulam travelled to Pakistan in September last year and contacted Pervez about the rent. The suspect kept promising Ghulam to pay the rent. However, he did not do so. On the day of the incident, Ghulam visited Pervez and demanded the rent, the suspect along with two of his unidentified accomplices snatched CAD 8,500, a wristwatch, a gold diamond ring, and a chain from the victim’s pocket. The three suspects also physically assaulted Ghulam. The victim told police that the suspects also threatened to kill him if he ever asked for the rent again. Madina Town police registered a case against the suspects and started raids for their arrest. On April 14, the provincial government has decided to set up special courts in Punjab for the provision of timely justice to overseas Pakistanis. Published in The Express Tribune, April 28th, 2021.
