The Pishin by-election of constituency PB-20 is set to be held today (Tuesday). The Election Commission of Pakistan’s Balochistan chapter has completed all the arrangements in this regard. The polling is set to begin at 8am till 5pm under heavy security without any interval. It is pertinent to mention that this seat had fallen vacant after the death of Syed Fazal Agha of JUI-F who died of Covid-19 last year. Over half a dozen candidates are contesting the by-election on this seat. However, the main contest is expected between Syed Azizullah Agha of JUI-F and Asmatullah Tareen who is a candidate of the ruling Balochistan Awami Party. Read More: 25 candidates submit Senate nomination papers The Awami National Party which is part of the coalition government was not supporting the joint candidate of the ruling coalition and has announced its support to Agha who is a joint candidate of the opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement that also includes PkMAP, PPP, PML-N and JUI-F. The other candidates who were contesting by-poll include Rozi Khan Tareen (JUI-Sherani) and independent candidates Syed Amaruddin Agha, Sajid Khan Kakar and Abdul Hadi Tareen. The total number of voters in this constituency are 99,849 which include 58,126 male voters and 41,723 female voters. Published in The Express Tribune, February 16th, 2021.
