The Rawalpindi police on Monday booked an alleged swindler for issuing fake appointment letters to police aspirants for money. Police officials said they had registered a case against the suspect, identified Zahid Basra, on the complaint lodged by a citizen, namely Samina Rand, in November 2020. In her complaint, the woman had informed the police that the suspect had obtained Rs150,000 from his son, promising that he would get him a job in the Islamabad police. Later, the suspect had handed over a fake recruitment letter to her son, she said. The complainant alleged that Zahid Basra had also taken Rs8,000 from his son on the pretext of a medical test. Furthermore, the suspect had filed pre-arrest bail pleas with a sessions court as well as a high court, the police said. However, both applications had been dismissed after which a case had been registered against the suspect, the police added. Published in The Express Tribune, February 2nd, 2021.
