The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to acquire services of retired army officials to curb the menace of land grabbing and protection of precious assets. This decision was made in the second session of LDA governing body meeting for 2021, held under the chair of LDA Vice Chairman S M Imran on Thursday. The meeting decided to restructure the Enforcement Directorate for better implementation of the construction bylaws and protection of government lands. It approved the appointment of retired army officials as director and zonal inspectors for this purpose. The meeting also decided to make the anti-encroachment drive more effective by constituting a special committee comprising of governing body members, including WASA Vice Chairman Sheikh Imtiaz Mahmood, MPA Sadia Sohail Rana and Technical Member Engineer Amir Riaz Qureshi. The meeting also deliberated on the allotment of plots to widows and needy during previous regimes. It decided to further investigate by handing over the matter to negotiation committee being run under the leadership of Sadia Sohail Rana. In To encourage welfare works, the meeting waived building plan approval fee for a not-for-profit teaching hospital. It also gave go-ahead to Tahzeeb-e-Ikhlaq Trust for submission of building plan for a not-for-profit university near Manga Mandi. Published in The Express Tribune, February 5th, 2021.
