Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has claimed that the government wants an end to horse-trading in the Senate elections but the opposition wants its continuation. He stated this while speaking at the inauguration of a water filtration plant installed by Al-Khidmat Foundation in Jinnah Hospital on Sunday. “The whole world knows that votes are bought and sold in the Senate elections. We want to end this corruption for which the opposition should support the government in legislation.” He maintained that nobody can oust the government. “Defence Minister Pervez Khattak has also made it clear that he stands with Prime Minister Imran Khan. We will ensure the protection of national interests at any cost.” Al-Khidmat Foundation Vice President Syed Ehsan Ullah Waqas, University of Health Sciences, Lahore Vice Chancellor Dr Javed Akram, Jinnah Hospital Lahore MS Dr Yahya Sultan and Syed Rashid Dawood were present among others. The governor further said that there was no doubt that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including the defence minister, had contested and won the elections. However, the PTI got the votes only due to the struggle of the PM. “Whatever Khattak has said, he has also made it clear that he stands with the PM.” Sarwar remarked that when he was elected as senator from Punjab, people also questioned him regarding votes. “I did not buy a single vote. Members of assembly voted for me because of my public service. ” Published in The Express Tribune, February 1st, 2021.
