Two people were arrested on Sunday for preparing and selling fake desi ghee. Butter oil, locally called, desi ghee, sells for over Rs400 per kilogramme as against Rs250/kg for palm oil. The actual price of pure butter oil or desi ghee is around Rs1,200/kg to Rs1,800 depending upon quality and brand. Mansehra Assistant Commissioner Jawad Sardar Marwat and Assistant Food Controller Shaukat Sultan raided a house and recovered fake desi ghee in huge quantity. Acting on a tip-off, district administration and food department jointly raided a house seized more than 200kg of fake desi ghee and arrested Qamar Zaman and Liaq Zada. The accused were preparing and selling fake desi ghee for Rs400/kg in far-flung areas of Hazara division. The officers conducted a sting operation to confirm the act and arrested the suspects at the time of delivery. Published in The Express Tribune, December 28th, 2020.
