The deputy commissioners of Lahore and Gujranwala submitted their replies in a plea, filed by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) lawyer’s wing in the Lahore High Court (LHC), asserting that the PMLN leaders were enjoying the same respect and liberty as any other citizen of Pakistan.
On behalf of the incumbent government, they refuted the allegations leveled by the opposition that the leadership of PML-N was being harassed and illegally held by police to inhibit political activism by them in the form of rallies and congregations.
The petitioner, through Advocate Rafaqat Dogar, had sought direction from the court to the concerned quarters to stop the harassment and registration of false first information reports (FIRs) against PMLN workers and leaders in the wake of the ongoing political scene.
It was alleged by the petitioner that the police at the behest of the government was threatening to register false criminal cases against the political workers so that may not participate in the political activities and therefore sought directions from the court to restrain them from doing so.
