Missing pet cat returns home after 3 days with ‘debt’ note

A pet cat that had gone missing in Thailand came back home after three days with a debt note.

The feline had gone missing from home and was found three days later. She returned home with a little placard attached to her neck. The pet’s return was shared in a Facebook post along with her pictures by a page “changpuaksiam”.

The caption said in Thai, “3 days gone and came back with debts. Isn’t that beautiful?”

The post has since been shared extensively on social media platforms, leaving netizens amused.

The “debt” in question involves a woman, named Aunty May, who gave the pet mackerels when she spotted the cat loitering around her shop.

The placard in Thai said, “Your cat kept eyeing mackerels at my stall, so I gave her three.” The shop owner signed off saying “Aunty May at alley no.2”. She also wrote down her phone number on the card.

Trump launches final, two-day frenzy of campaigning in bid for surprise win

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Sunday launches his final, two-day sprint of campaigning across the battleground states of the 2020 election in a dramatic bid to defy the polls and win a come-from-behind victory over Democrat Joe Biden.

Facing what appears to be a narrow path to re-election, Trump is to make stops in states likely to prove pivotal in deciding if he will remain in the White House for four more years or whether he will become the first president since George H.W. Bush in 1992 to fail in a bid for a second term.

Biden, who has made Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic the central theme of his candidacy, will campaign on Sunday in Pennsylvania, a state that may well decide the winner of the election.

On Sunday and Monday, Trump will stage 10 rallies – five a day – making it the campaign’s busiest stretch. The Republican incumbent aims to generate enough momentum to drive an overwhelming turnout by his supporters on Tuesday, Election Day.

On Sunday, the president will hold rallies in Michigan, Iowa, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. On Monday his campaign has scheduled events in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and two in Michigan.

He will close out the two-day swing with a late-night rally on Monday in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the same location where he finished his campaign in 2016. In his improbable victory four years ago, he took Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, three states that for decades had gone in the Democratic column.

Weighing down Trump is a rising number of coronavirus infections. The country has recorded more than 9 million cases, with nearly 230,000 people dead.

Trump has played down the virus and says his opponents are using it against him. He warns that a Biden presidency would lead to another virus lockdown, which the country cannot afford.

‘Good chance’ of Rabi us Sani moon sighting on Nov 16 evening

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said that there was good chance of sighting the new moon of Rabi us Sani, 1442 AH on the evening of November 16 (29 Rabi ul Awwal).

The met office in its statement said that Rabi us Sani crescent will be sighted on the evening of Monday November 16.

The weather department said that the new moon of Rabi us Sani, 1442 AH, will born on crossing conjunction point at 10-07 Pakistan Standard Time (PST) on 15 November 2020.

According to climate record, the weather is expected to be fair or partly cloudy in most
parts of the country on that evening.

A meeting of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in connection with the sighting of the moon of Rabi us Sani, 1442 AH is expected to be held on Nov 16 evening.

The meeting of Zonal and District Ruet-e-Hilal committees also expected to be held on that evening for collecting evidence in respect of sighting of the new moon.

In Islamic lunar calendar Rabi us Sani is fourth month of the year.

It is to be mentioned here that the Ministry of Science and Technology has developed the moon sighting app ‘Ruet’ and federal officials have said that sighting the new moon is not an issue anymore.

Five more die, 255 test positive for coronavirus in Punjab

LAHORE: The novel coronavirus has claimed five more lives and infected 255 people during the past 24 hours in Punjab on Sunday.

In a statement on the daily COVID-19 situation, the spokesperson Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Punjab said that five more people succumbed to the deadly virus in 24 hours, taking the death toll to 2,362 in the province.

He maintained that 255 new cases of the coronavirus were reported in the province during the last 24 hours. The province has overall reported 104,271 cases out of which 97,456 have recovered their health.

Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Saturday had said that the number of COVID-19 cases is rising as people were not following the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

He had maintained that smart lockdown will be imposed in coronavirus hotspots in the province.

Four Dengue Fever patients reported in Punjab in 24 hours

LAHORE: Provincial health authorities on Sunday reported four more cases of dengue fever in Punjab, ARY News reported.

According to a spokesperson of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Punjab, three new cases of dengue fever were reported in Lahore and one in Attock.

The number of confirmed dengue fever cases in Punjab has reached 147 this year from January 2020 so far, after detection of four new cases, the spokesperson said.

He further stated that no deaths have been reported in the ongoing year due to the dengue virus, adding that the most patients have recovered to health.

Earlier in the month of August, as many as 533 suspected patients of dengue fever were reported in Punjab in a single day.

The patients after tests were declared healthy and were allowed to leave for their homes.

Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmeen Rashid earlier said that the provincial government was taking all-out measures to cope with the menace of dengue fever.

“The ratio of dengue cases have substantially been reduced due to the efforts made by the district authorities and other concerned departments,” she said.

She directed to carry out effective measure for preventing the growth of dengue larva. The minister said that dengue patients were being provided best medical facilities at public sector hospitals in Punjab.

Govt decides granting provincial status to Gilgit-Baltistan: PM Imran Khan

GILGIT: Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced that the federal government took the decision to grant the status of a province to Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region, ARY News reported on Sunday.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan participated Azadi Parade after reaching Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) on the occasion of the National Day celebrations of the region. PM Imran Khan is accompanied by Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda, other ministers and officials during his visit to GB region.

While addressing the ceremony, PM Imran Khan said that the decision for giving provincial status to Gilgit Baltistan (GB) region was taken in accordance with the United Nations (UN) resolutions.

PM Imran Khan is accompanied by Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda, other ministers and officials during his visit to GB region.

During his visit, the premier will also review the development work on Diamer Bhasha Dam and visit Astore National Park.

The spokesperson of the GB chief minister, Faizullah Firaq said that November 1 is the independence day of Gilgit Baltistan. He said that PM Imran Khan and GB interim chief minister will pay a visit to Yadgar-e-Shuhada and lay floral wreath on the graves at the monument of martyrs.

Raids conducted on tip-off by Tiger Force at motorway rest areas

ISLAMABAD: The civil administration had conducted raids on a tip-off by Tiger Force volunteers at motorway rest areas against hoarders and profiteers, ARY News reported on Sunday.

The local administration expedited actions against hoarders and profiteers to bring down prices of essential commodities over the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

During the raids, the administration made arrests of several more responsible persons besides imposition of fines up to 40,000 for overcharging the products.

The volunteers of Tiger Force reported regarding the overcharging of essential goods from passengers at motorway rest areas.

Moreover, a raid was also carried out against hoarders on a tip-off by Tiger Force in Gujar Khan city of Punjab. The raid was conducted on a secret go-down where sugar sacks were hidden.

More than 800 sugar sacks were seized that worth over Rs4 million. The seized sugar sacks will be provided to sahulat bazaars to sale it on lower cost.

Earlier on Saturday, a monthly report on ongoing crackdowns against hoarders and profiteers in Punjab with the assistance of Tiger Force volunteers had been presented in a session jointly chaired by the provincial chief secretary and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Usman Dar.

It is noteworthy to mention here that the provincial authorities conducted crackdowns across Punjab over the reports of Tiger Force volunteers and seized hoardings of essential commodities including wheat, sugar, flour and ghee worth millions.

It stated that that the authorities seized different commodities from hoarders worth over Rs144 million besides imposing heavy fines on responsible persons worth more than Rs51.4 million and registered 1,288 First Information Reports (FIRs) for overcharging besides arresting 1,200 people during one month.

It read that 25,000 sacks of sugar weighing approximately 1,300 tons were seized which worth more than Rs100 million.

The statistics of actions carried out between April 2020 to October 2020 were also presented in the session.

It read that Rs7.1 billion worth hoardings were seized during the period of April 2020 and October 2020, whereas, fines of over Rs596.6 million were imposed against hoarders during the last six months.

The authorities arrested 9,543 responsible persons and registered more than 9,000 FIRs.

PM Imran Khan had given the first task to the Tiger Force volunteers for discouraging hoarding while chairing a high-level session regarding the ongoing efforts for price controls.
