Four Dengue Fever patients reported in Punjab in 24 hours

LAHORE: Provincial health authorities on Sunday reported four more cases of dengue fever in Punjab, ARY News reported.

According to a spokesperson of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Punjab, three new cases of dengue fever were reported in Lahore and one in Attock.

The number of confirmed dengue fever cases in Punjab has reached 147 this year from January 2020 so far, after detection of four new cases, the spokesperson said.

He further stated that no deaths have been reported in the ongoing year due to the dengue virus, adding that the most patients have recovered to health.

Earlier in the month of August, as many as 533 suspected patients of dengue fever were reported in Punjab in a single day.

The patients after tests were declared healthy and were allowed to leave for their homes.

Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmeen Rashid earlier said that the provincial government was taking all-out measures to cope with the menace of dengue fever.

“The ratio of dengue cases have substantially been reduced due to the efforts made by the district authorities and other concerned departments,” she said.

She directed to carry out effective measure for preventing the growth of dengue larva. The minister said that dengue patients were being provided best medical facilities at public sector hospitals in Punjab.

Govt decides granting provincial status to Gilgit-Baltistan: PM Imran Khan

GILGIT: Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced that the federal government took the decision to grant the status of a province to Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region, ARY News reported on Sunday.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan participated Azadi Parade after reaching Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) on the occasion of the National Day celebrations of the region. PM Imran Khan is accompanied by Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda, other ministers and officials during his visit to GB region.

While addressing the ceremony, PM Imran Khan said that the decision for giving provincial status to Gilgit Baltistan (GB) region was taken in accordance with the United Nations (UN) resolutions.

PM Imran Khan is accompanied by Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda, other ministers and officials during his visit to GB region.

During his visit, the premier will also review the development work on Diamer Bhasha Dam and visit Astore National Park.

The spokesperson of the GB chief minister, Faizullah Firaq said that November 1 is the independence day of Gilgit Baltistan. He said that PM Imran Khan and GB interim chief minister will pay a visit to Yadgar-e-Shuhada and lay floral wreath on the graves at the monument of martyrs.

Raids conducted on tip-off by Tiger Force at motorway rest areas

ISLAMABAD: The civil administration had conducted raids on a tip-off by Tiger Force volunteers at motorway rest areas against hoarders and profiteers, ARY News reported on Sunday.

The local administration expedited actions against hoarders and profiteers to bring down prices of essential commodities over the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

During the raids, the administration made arrests of several more responsible persons besides imposition of fines up to 40,000 for overcharging the products.

The volunteers of Tiger Force reported regarding the overcharging of essential goods from passengers at motorway rest areas.

Moreover, a raid was also carried out against hoarders on a tip-off by Tiger Force in Gujar Khan city of Punjab. The raid was conducted on a secret go-down where sugar sacks were hidden.

More than 800 sugar sacks were seized that worth over Rs4 million. The seized sugar sacks will be provided to sahulat bazaars to sale it on lower cost.

Earlier on Saturday, a monthly report on ongoing crackdowns against hoarders and profiteers in Punjab with the assistance of Tiger Force volunteers had been presented in a session jointly chaired by the provincial chief secretary and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Usman Dar.

It is noteworthy to mention here that the provincial authorities conducted crackdowns across Punjab over the reports of Tiger Force volunteers and seized hoardings of essential commodities including wheat, sugar, flour and ghee worth millions.

It stated that that the authorities seized different commodities from hoarders worth over Rs144 million besides imposing heavy fines on responsible persons worth more than Rs51.4 million and registered 1,288 First Information Reports (FIRs) for overcharging besides arresting 1,200 people during one month.

It read that 25,000 sacks of sugar weighing approximately 1,300 tons were seized which worth more than Rs100 million.

The statistics of actions carried out between April 2020 to October 2020 were also presented in the session.

It read that Rs7.1 billion worth hoardings were seized during the period of April 2020 and October 2020, whereas, fines of over Rs596.6 million were imposed against hoarders during the last six months.

The authorities arrested 9,543 responsible persons and registered more than 9,000 FIRs.

PM Imran Khan had given the first task to the Tiger Force volunteers for discouraging hoarding while chairing a high-level session regarding the ongoing efforts for price controls.

Earlier on October 25, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz had hit out at the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of political opposition parties – saying “PDM is the third part of the axis of evil with India and Israel against Pakistan”.

JHANG: Three alleged bandits killed in a police encounter in Massan police station jurisdiction here, ARY News reported on Sunday.

The encounter with six robbers, riding on motorbikes, took place at Khota bridge here, according to police officials.

The criminals were fleeing after committing a crime in Chand Bharwana area in Jhang district, police said. “The policemen signaled the motorbike riders to stop but they opened fire over the polic,” according to police.

Three robbers were killed in the firing opened by their accomplices, police claimed.

Police is searching for three bandits fled from the scene after firing, local officials said.

Traders of tires protest against alleged raid of Customs in Karachi

KARACHI: The traders of tires staged a protest demonstration at the University Road near Old Sabzi Mandi over the alleged raid of Customs on Sunday, ARY News reported.

The protesting traders blocked both the tracks of the University Roads. A massive traffic jam was reported in the area.

The traders of tires alleged that two of the shopkeepers were injured in an alleged raid of the Customs.

Meanwhile, the sources within Customs said that the raid was conducted over the information on the presence of the smuggled tires in the market.

The raid was conducted after fulfillment of all the legal requirements, the sources said.

On the other hand, the local police of the area stated that they were not informed about the raid by the Customs authorities.

We are investigating the matter and a case would be registered on the complaint of the traders, the police authorities said. According to the traders, a shopkeeper got injured in the alleged firing of Customs officials, and two others were injured after being hit by rifle butts.

The traders have also alleged that that the raiding team also took away their tires and cash.
