As the government faces an uphill task of mending the country’s economy, the ministers belonging to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have decided to work without salary. The ministers took the decision in a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, under the national spirit. Twelve federal ministers and three state ministers belonging to the PML-N have decided to work without salary. PM Shehbaz had already approved a request of 14 special assistants who had expressed their willingness to work without remuneration. The ministers’ practice to work without drawing salaries is unprecedented in the country’s history. Last month, the premier had formed a National Austerity Committee to reduce the government expenditures and budget deficit. The committee was formed under the chairmanship of Nasir Mahmood Khosa -- a retired civil servant and one of the PTI’s nominees for the post of the interim chief minister of Punjab.
