Imran seeking judiciary’s support to return to power: Maryam

PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz fired a broadside at PTI chief Imran Khan on Tuesday, claiming the former premier was seeking the judiciary’s support after the establishment stopped backing him. “Imran Khan needs crutches to come to power. But now that the establishment has withdrawn its support, he is trying to come back to power by riding on the back of the judiciary,” she said while addressing the party workers in Lahore. Responding to Imran’s tirade against former army chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa, Maryam said, "If General Bajwa was the 'super king', were you his servant?" Imran had claimed that the former army chief used to call the shots while he, as the prime minister, was at the receiving end of all the criticism. “He was a super king. He was above everyone. He was controlling NAB and no one could be held accountable without Bajwa's nod.” Maryam accused the PTI chief of "begging" President Arif Alvi to arrange a meeting with the former army chief after his government's ouster. Also read: I drew flak while Bajwa called the shots: Imran Maryam said Imran’s ‘foreign conspiracy’ narrative was based on lies, adding that the deposed premier only wanted to spread "violence, bloodshed and turmoil" in the country. She also referred to Imran’s recent statement that ex-army chief Bajwa—not the United States—was primarily responsible for toplling his government’s. "I had mentioned earlier that the cypher was nothing but a fraud," she said. Maryam said Imran termed his political rivals 'foreign agents' and had severed the country’s ties with the US and the West under the false narrative. She also reiterated that Imran should be made to negotiate with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) “as he is the one responsible for destroying the country’s economy”.
