Covid-19 claims 18 more lives in Punjab

The coronavirus pandemic claimed 18 more lives in the province whereas 1,044 fresh infections were reported on Sunday. Reportedly, the death toll from Covid-19 reached 5,552. According to data shared by the spokesperson for Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD), the number of coronavirus cases in the province exceeded 177,000. The PP&SHD confirmed that 646 new virus cases were reported in Lahore, 14 in Sheikhupura, 31 in Rawalpindi, 10 in Toba Tek Singh, 36 in Sialkot, two in Kasur, nine in Jhelum, three in Mandi Bahauddin, one in Narowal, five in Hafizabad, one in Layyah, three in Mianwali, 41 in Gujranwala, 36 in Sialkot, 90 in Gujrat, 57 in Faisalabad and two in Chiniot. The Punjab Health Department has conducted 3,402,377 tests for Covid-19 so far, while 164,989 confirmed patients have recovered altogether. The health department urged the citizens to follow SOPs for their protection and cover their faces with masks, besides washing their hands with soap several times in a day, to protect themselves from the contagion.     Published in The Express Tribune, March 8th, 2021.
