Punjab Police is planning to purchase three 4G locators to help bust the hardened criminals. The locators will cost up to Rs300 million to the provincial exchequer. Inspector General of Punjab Police Inam Ghani has forwarded a summary to the government of Punjab in this regard. The fund for the purpose are expected to be issued in the next financial year. The locators will be acquired by the Logistics Branch of IG office and distributed to other police establishments. Former CCPO Lahore Umer Shoib Sheikh had written to the IGP for the purchase of the locators after Lahore Police faced trouble in the arrest of the prime suspect of motorway gang-rape tragedy, Abid Malhi. There were many instances when either the raiding team reached late or the locator reached late owing to out-dated technology. IGP Inam Ghani had said it during a media briefing. He had not narrated the whole story. There was a gap between the locator and the raiding teams. The suspect had fled from the scene after seeing the locator while the raiding teams reached after lapse of some time. The suspect had been using 4G technology mobile phone while police had only 2G technology locators. Currently, there were only three locators available with Punjab Police including one each in Lahore and Rawalpindi
