An anti-narcotics court on Tuesday convicted a drug peddler and jailed him for four and a half years. The man, named Masood, has also been ordered to pay a fine of Rs20,000 by the court. Masood was arrested by the Naseerabad police in June 2020 after 1.2 kilogrammes of hashish was found in his possession. After final hearing arguments from the prosecution and the defence, Additional Session Judge Farkhanda Arshad found the man guilty of the crime and pronounced the judgment. Two held Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers during separate raids conducted in Rawalpindi. Over four kilogrammes of hashish were found on the suspects, said a police spokesman. The first raid was carried out by the Pirwadhai police during which an alleged drug peddler, namely Faisal Khan, was arrested and 2.2 kilogrammes of hashish was found on him, the spokesperson said. In a separate conducted by the Saddar Baroni police, a man named Amjadullah was rounded up and 2.67 kilogrammes of hashish was found in his possession, the police spokesperson added. He said cases had been registered against the held suspects under the Narcotics Control Act and investigations were under way. Published in The Express Tribune, February 17th, 2021.
