PIA plane makes emergency landing in Karachi after bird strike

A Lahore-Jeddah Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flight made an emergency landing after a bird struck and broke its cockpit. The Boeing-777 aircraft carrying 350 passengers landed at the Karachi airport, while the passengers were flown to Saudi Arabia in another plane. The pilot of PK-7959 later communicated with the control tower in Karachi and landed the plane at the Jinnah Terminal runway. Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the national flag carrier confirmed the incident and that it resulted in a broken windshield. In 2020, after repeated incidents of bird collisions, the then Chief Operation Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority penned a letter to the authorities concerned regarding bird activity in close proximity to Jinnah International Airport. In the first incident that year, nozzle of flight PK-301, en route from Islamabad to Karachi, was damaged after a bird strike. Similarly, another bird strike left a hole in the flaps of the wings of aircraft PK-311, en route from Quetta to Karachi. In his letter, COO Khan had noted that there had been a large number of bird strikes at both national and foreign carriers, and the shooting of birds by airport management had failed to make any positive change. He had stressed the need to deal with bird strikes - causing accidents and resulting in the disability of the aircraft, as well as the loss of human lives.
